An Epic Skateboard
In the summer of 1997 I was anxious. My first skateboard was on its way! I called up Charm City skate shop every day. Finally it arrived. It was eight inches wide and thirty-two inches long and it had come all the way from Toy Machine Skateboards in California. On the bottom there was portrait of a robot that was bright orange. The background was lightly colored red; light enough that you could still see the wood grain. My new skateboard was going to be put on a brand new pair of Independent trucks. I had seen a few pictures of Ed Templeton in Thrasher. He was always skating bright orange spitfire wheels. Ed was a professional skateboarder, a painter, a photographer, and he owned Toy Machine skateboards. Ed was so cool, and If Ed skated bright orange wheels I had to have a set too. So I completed my skateboard with a set of bright orange sixty-two millimeter Spitfire Scorchers. With this new skateboard in hand, no curb was safe. I bombed ever hill, grinded every parking block, and ollied every set of steps I could. The world was mine.
