Also though, I related to the sentence when the writer said "I felt the snow brush along the floorboards under my feet." Usually descriptions in stories are to create an image. Personally, I could see the snow scraping the bottom of the car, but I could also feel it grinding under my feet.
The main character was the writer, Tobias Wolff. He wants to get home for Christmas dinner with his family, but his father isn't worried about him making it, rather him having fun at the slopes. In the end, I'd like to think that they make it home in time, but the story doesn't tell, so I guess that's another part left up to the imagination.
My favorite object from "The Things The Carried" was the thumb. It wasn't my favorite in the sense that I wish I could carry it with me on a daily basis... that's just weird. It was my favorite in that it showed that the soldiers didn't have much to hold close or relate to, and even the thumb of a dead boy gave one of the soldiers hope and comfort and meaning.
